Trail Overview Map

The Continental Divide Trail

Starting at the US border with Mexico, this trail follows the Continental Divide through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana with the final stop at Waterton Park, Canada creating a trail of an estimated 2747 miles long.  Interestingly, the CDT has many ways to get from Mexico to Canada, there is not an"'official" completed route as of yet.  The CDT is not a set trail as the PCT or AT.  Most hikers take parallel trails that provide more scenic opportunities.  I plan to take in some of these scenic routes, such as the Glia River.  Because of the many alternate routes each hiker's milage will vary, but all are considered to have hiked the CDT.  My calculated route milage based the Bear Creek GPS points used in Guthook's CDT app will get me to Canada in 2810 miles.

This map provides and interesting view of the various parks the trail winds through.  I like this map, but the start point is a little off from my start point of Crazy Cook.  The end point is also a little off as I'm continuing to Waterton Park, Canada, not stopping at
Glacier Park.  You get the idea though.

Yosemite and The End of the Trail

Day 18

JMT Miles Hiked: 6
Hours Hiked:  3

Birdsong fills the morning air creating a fitting greeting for the last day in the trail. People are already advancing up the trail, the solitude of the wilderness is no more. I pass Little Yosemite Valley, where Josh, I and our friends camped after ascending the falls. Soon I start the descention, granite step after granite step.  I'm amazed that we climbed this steep trail, it's a challenge just going down.
